The Substance Misuse Information Station has received
a number of enquiries from young people concerned about
another person's use of Cannabis. Unfortunately we
have received insufficient information to respond accurately
and appropriately to the questions submitted.
The way the drug affects each person depends on many
factors, including:
the user's previous experience with the drug; how strong
the cannabis is (that how much of the active ingredient,THC,
it contains); what the user expects to happen; where
(the place) the drug is used; how it is taken; and
whether the user is drinking alcohol or using other
drugs at the same time.
The Short
Term Effects and Long
Term Effects of Cannabis are summarised in the
Information Station itself and more information can
be obtained using the Know
the Score Link.
If further or more detailed responses are required
then we would ask that questions are resubmitted, with,
if you can, more information. If you add your e mail
address to the submission you will receive a personal
reply direct to that e mail address.
Reclassification of Cannabis:
The question of what will happen to you, if you are
caught in possession of cannabis following its reclassification
to a Class C drug is one which is causing considerable
confusion for many young people because of the National
media attention which has presented information from
both an English and Scottish perspective.
Guidance has been issued which should help clarify
the position in Scotland and this is currently being
displayed on the "Information
Station" section of the website.
