Parental Involvement

The Scottish Schools (Parental Involvement) Act 2006 places a requirement on all local authorities to prepare a strategy to take forward the following:

  • promote the involvement of parents in the education provided by the school to their child, and to pupils generally, at their child's school;
  • promote the establishment of Parent Councils;
  • give advice and information to Parent Councils and support their operation;
  • give advice and information to parents generally, and
  • establish a complaints procedure for representation under the Act.

'Developing Strategy for Parental Involvement in South Ayrshire Schools - a partnership with parents' is a consultation document which invites partners and related services to comment and give feedback on supporting parental involvement in our schools. This document is a statement of the intentions of South Ayrshire Council to work in partnership with parents, carers, school staff and wider community in order to develop strong and effective parental involvement in all our schools.

We welcome your comments, ideas and feedback on services to help us develop our longer terms plans. Please forward them to: focusfeedback@south-ayrshire.gov.uk by the end of March.
