Each young person can benefit
from the South Ayrshire Befriending Project in many
ways.
The young person will gain access,
through care and support, to chosen activities within
the community.
SABP will provide a route for the
young person to pursue or develop a particular interest
or skill.
A befriender can offer a young person
the experience of a positive adult role model.
A befriender will provide an opportunity
for the young person to gain confidence and build self-esteem.
Regular group outings provide an
opportunity for friendships to develop with other young
people involved in the SABP.
The experience of a trusting relationship
can contribute to the well-being of the young person.
It is hoped that the experience of
a supportive befriending relationship will empower the
young person in order that they would eventually be
able to gain the confidence and ability to be integrated
into their community and develop positive relationships
with their peers.
The service provision is fully reviewed
every 6 months in order to monitor the young person’s
personal development and also to decide if the service
is still relevant to the person’s needs. If involvement
with the SABP is assessed to be no longer relevant,
then an ending process would begin and the referrer
would be expected to investigate more appropriate agency/
resource involvement.
