TEAM LEADER RHONA RONALDSON

The key aims of the services

The centralised fostering and adoption team is responsible for recruitment, support and training of foster carers and adopters.

Every child should be placed within their own community allowing continuity of family contact, school, leisure and cultural and religious activities.

Placements should meet the child’s ethnic, cultural and religious needs

Siblings groups should be placed together where possible.

Carers are trained to a high standard and understand the principles of working in partnerships with parents. Two carers have obtained SVQ level in Child care

Adoption Counselling Services:
Counselling is offered to adopted people, birth parents and adoptive parents. Support groups for adopters are in place in partnership with East and North Ayrshire. A programme of support/training has been purchased from Adoption UK during 2003.

80 % of Adoption Counselling enquiries are from the people who wish to find out about their origins. From April 2000 until December 2002 a total of 29 was received for Origin counselling.

We provide adoptive and permanent placements for children through membership of BAAF, West of Scotland Family Placement Consortium and Glasgow and West of Scotland Adoption Service.
