Child Care Strategy

A very robust and progressive child care strategy has been developed and maintained in South Arshire since the early 90's, this is based on the principles of minimum necessary intervention preventative practice, the commitment to maintain children and young people safely within their own families and communities. The strategy is well integrated into practice, each of the teams in Children & Families Services works to the same key objectives.

  • To ensure the safety of children and promote their social, emotional, physical, psychological and education development.
  • To recognise the strength and importance of the family and to ensure that services are provided to support and not undermine those strenghts.
  • To recognise the growing diversity of family life and offer support in ways that help children and parents retain and enhance their self esteem.
  • To promote the key principle of partnership with parents in all work with children and families.
  • To develop and promote joint working and integrated practice which will improve the health and education outcomes and enhance the life opportunities of looked after children and young people.
  • To prevent unnecessary statutory intervention and the inappropriate accomodation of children and young people.
  • To ensure that when children and young people are accommodated it is a positive experience.
  • To support, promote and develop strategies policies and practice which address social exclusion
