The Youth Support Team offer
a range of services to children in need and looked
after
young people and their families throughout South Ayrshire.
We support young people to remain at home, within
their
own communities and within mainstream education wherever
possible.
The team deliver focused groupwork
programmes based on identified needs of young people.
In addition we offer individual support, family work
where appropriate, and the development of joint working
practices with other Social Work staff, Community Education,
Schools, Youth Projects and Voluntary Organisations.
Targeted groupwork programmes are
‘needs led’ and vary throughout the year
in terms of content and approach. They will include
programmes which focus on:
Offending behaviour
School support – behaviour and truancy
Alcohol/drugs
Conflict and aggression
Self esteem and social skills
On average the Youth Support Team
work directly with over 50 young people at any one time.
These young people will primarily be involved in groupwork
provision, although some will be receiving more intensive
individual support, perhaps in conjunction with other
initiatives.
Youth Support Team staff are actively
involved in other areas of work, contributing to both
direct service delivery, as well as service development
initiatives. These include:
Screening and Resource Groups
Joint Assessment Teams
Youth Housing Support Group
Youth Support Strategy
South Ayrshire Befriending Project
Target Leisure
Kincaidston Youth Café
Groupwork Training
Alcohol and Drugs Service Development and Training
