Children, and especially toddlers, are always prone
to minor cuts, injuries and illness – most of
which you can nurse better yourself with plasters, paracetamol
and a cuddle.
However you know you child better than anyone else,
so if you suspect she is seriously ill or has had an
accident or fall, don’t hesitate to phone your
doctor, or go to a hospital Accident and Emergency department.
It is always better to worry too much than too little,
and no one will mind if you have a genuine concern.
Knowing what to do in an emergency will help you stay
calm.
Remember your child may be frightened so you need to
keep as calm as possible for her. Also your fear may
make you seem more angry than usual. This can be upsetting
and confusing for young children, so try to reassure
and comfort them that they are going to be okay.
Once you have decided that your child needs emergency
help, speed is essential. Children’s symptoms
develop more quickly than an adult’s, so it is
important to act quickly and get help as soon as the
accident happens or illness strikes.
