Carers are people whose lives
are restricted by taking responsibility for the care
of someone who needs help because of illness, disability
of the effects of age.
Carers may be young, old, male or
female. They may be partners, sons, daughters, parents,
other relatives, neighbours or friends. They come from
all racial, ethnic and religious backgrounds.
Carers may help with a variety of
tasks such as housework and personal care. They also
provide company and emotional support to the person
they care for and may take responsibility for their
financial affairs.
Many Carers take this role willingly,
out of a sense of love and commitment; others become
Carers because they feel they have no choice. Caring
for someone is often rewarding but can also be demanding,
isolating and stressful. You may be worried about money
or your own health.
Many people do not identify themselves
as Carers. It is estimated, that there are 500,000 in
Scotland and around 20,000 Carers within South Ayrshire.
If you can relate to any of the above, then contact
the Carers Centre on: 01292 263000
