Looking After Your TeethChoose healthy snacks
Avoid tooth decay by keeping sugary snacks and drinks to mealtimes only.
Choose tooth-friendly snacks and drinks between meals.
Fizzy drinks contain harmful acid and should be limited to mealtimes only.
If you can’t brush your teeth after eating, chew sugar-free gum.

Brush your teeth
Brush your teeth twice every day to help avoid tooth decay and gum disease.
Use a fluoride toothpaste containing at least 1000ppm (parts per million) fluoride.
After brushing spit out but do not rinse.

Young children, up to 7 years should only use a pea-sized blob of toothpaste and should be supervised by an adult.

Looking After Your TeethVisit your dentist
Visit your dentist every six months for a dental check up.
Make sure you are registered with a dentist.

An emergency dental service for unregistered patients in Ayrshire & Arran is available at weekends. Tel: 01292 513844

Dental treatment is free for those in full-time education, up to age 19yrs.Choose healthy snacks. Avoid tooth decay by keeping sugary snacks and drinks to mealtimes only. Between meals choose “tooth friendly” snacks and drinks, for example:

Looking After Your Teethpieces of fruit – apples, oranges, bananas. or raw vegetables – carrots, cucumber, tomatoes. Milk and water are the best drinks for teeth.
Keep fizzy drinks to mealtimes only.
Remember to use a straw.
