Sexual Health

Parents

You want your children to be safe and healthy. They will learn about sexual matters one way or another so its best to make sure they get the right information, and you are the best people to help them.

A survey in Ayrshire has shown that young people want their parents to talk to them about sexual matters.

Its not always easy to talk about sexual matters with children, but the evidence is that if you talk openly and honestly young people are more likely to delay having sex, and to use contraception when they do.

Parentline Plus is a charity offering help and information for anyone caring for a child. They have a leaflet called “Time to talk about sex” which aims to help parents discuss sexual matters with their children so they develop healthy attitudes and make wise decisions.
