Young Carers are young people
between the ages of 8-18 in South Ayrshire, who look
after or help to look after someone in their family;
a mother, father brother, sister, or grandparent.
The person that is being cared for
may be affected by;
Disability
Mental Health Issues
Illness
Drug/Alcohol Abuse
Often young Carers can feel;
Tired
Worried
Upset
Anxious
Unhappy
Strressed
What do young Carers Do?
Young Carers may be providing practical
or emotional support or undertaking responsibilities
carried out by adults.
Young Carers are often having to
do things like;
Cooking
Cleaning
Other responsibilities can include
helping with medication or taking over financial responsibilities
such as paying everyday household bills.
Young Carers may also have the task
of looking after their younger brother or sister - making
sure that they get to school on time.
The South Ayrshire Carers Centre
can help by giving Young Carers;

A chance to talk to and be heard
Information and support
Access to other services
The South Ayrshire Carers Centre
provides Young Carers with help, support, information
and advice.
We can also offer Young Carers a chance to meet other
young people, take part in organised activities, a homework
club, drop in facility and access to other mainstream
groups.
